Good Housekeeping extends Reader Recommended scheme

Good Housekeeping, the women’s lifestyle magazine published by Hearst Magazines UK, has extended its successful Reader Recommended scheme by launching its first ever Book endorsement.

The Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) will call upon its database of 10,000 consumers who will have the opportunity to review a selection of agreed titles which have been nominated by the publisher. Reviewers will be given an agreed time to read the book and complete a questionnaire, after which the results are analysed by the experts at the GHI and the title, if approved, is awarded the Good Housekeeping Reader Recommended Books logo.

The publisher will be given unlimited usage of the logo to promote on POS, on-pack, online and on-air advertising, only in the UK.

The first group of Good Housekeeping Reader Recommended Books will be promoted in the Good Housekeeping February 2013 issue on the Tried, Tested, Trusted page as well as appearing on goodhousekeeping.co.uk and in the online bookshop for 12 months.

As the UK’s top consumer champion, says Hearst, the GHI is famous for recommending the best products, tried and tested by an in-house team of experts. To continue to provide fair and impartial consumer testing, the Good Housekeeping Reader Recommended scheme utilises an exclusive database of more than 10,000 consumers to recruit hundreds of readers to help with the testing and spread the word about the great buys available on the high street.

Good Housekeeping Editorial Director Lindsay Nicholson says, “I’m delighted to launch our first Book endorsement as part of our successful Good Housekeeping Reader Recommended logo initiative, and to announce that the Random House Group is our launch partner which has put five of its titles forward for the first review. We’re constantly told to never judge a book by its cover but in some cases we don’t know if we can judge a book by its reviews either. This is why we’re calling on our trusted consumers to review a selection of books in their home to offer peer-to-peer recommendations.”

Publishing Director, Lifestyle Group, Judith Secombe says, “The success of Good Housekeeping Reader Recommended is testament to the power of our readers’ voices and the Book endorsement unites their opinions and our trusted expertise. As the UK’s leading women’s lifestyle magazine and consumer champion we are committed to developing the Good Housekeeping brand across multiple platforms to listen to and engage our readers as well as providing our advertisers with competitive creative solutions.”
