Gurgle magazine launches birth plan app

Gurgle, the baby and parenting magazine owned by Mothercare, has launched an innovative birth plan app for expectant mothers with Huggies signed up as the app’s exclusive advertising partner.

The Gurgle app, designed and built by Group FMG, allows mothers-to-be to design and store their complete birth plan within the app itself, and offers a range of useful features including built in family and friend contact lists.

Group FMG worked closely with The Mothercare Group to design and develop the app. Commenting on the project, Mark Inskip, FMG’s Managing Director, Europe, said: “This move by Gurgle to create a bespoke app for mothers-to-be represents the fact that publishers are really embracing the behavioral shift in the way readers consume content. No longer do they simply want to digest content, they want to interact with it and take it with them wherever they go.

“This is demonstrated no more perfectly than in the creation of the Gurgle ‘Birth Plan’ app – the entire premise of which lies in being able to shape content based on very individual needs and have that content with them at a crucial moment. It’s easy to forget a traditional printed plan on the day but you’re much less likely to forget an e-plan stored on your mobile phone.”

The Gurgle app has launched on the iTunes store with an Android version to follow.

Gurgle Magazine, a £2.80 bi-monthly title published by Media 10 is sold exclusively in all Mothercare and Early Learning Centre stores and leading magazine retailers nationwide, including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose, ASDA, Boots and selected independents.  The accompanying website is free to view.
