Swinden will be responsible for the growth of Haymarket’s Business Media division across the Marcomms & Charities, Medical, and Energy & Environment groups. He will be in charge of growing HBM’s portfolio of 17 brands including such titles as Campaign, PRWeek, GP, MIMS, Windpower Monthly and ENDS.
The appointment as Managing Director will see Swinden lead the division’s model to one focused more on subscriptions, data, high value information and research, in line with the overall strategic objectives of Haymarket Media Group’s Group Growth Plan, says the company.
Swinden joined Haymarket as Director of Environmental Publishing in 2008 and has led HBM’s Energy and Environment group over the past five years. The group now derives close to half of its revenues from high-value paid content. He also more recently took on responsibility for Haymarket’s Medical group in the UK which comprises leading brands such as GP and MIMS.
Haymarket Media Group CEO, Kevin Costello, said: “I am thrilled to announce Philip as the new leader of our Business Media division. He has unparalleled knowledge of our portfolio of B2B titles where we dominate in the Marcomms, Medical, and Energy & Environment sectors, as well as deep expertise in the diverse and ever-changing range of B2B models.”
“I have every confidence that Philip’s experience across all forms of media, but in particular his background in developing successful paid content businesses, will enhance HBM’s position as one of the UK’s leading B2B publishers over the coming years.”
Swinden said on his appointment: “I’m honoured to be asked to lead HBM at this exciting time. The division has emerged from a period of consolidation in a healthy, robust position now delivering quality growth in both revenues and profits across the brands. The next phase of our journey is about accelerating the pace of growth propelled by a range of new initiatives and developments across high-value paid content, live events and other B2B activities.”
Swinden is promoted to Managing Director of HBM effectively immediately, reporting to Haymarket Media Group’s CEO, Kevin Costello.
