Kenny Rogers named POTY 2011 judge

Music legend Kenny Rogers is swapping concerts for cameras with a spot on the judging panel of Digital Camera magazine’s Photographer of the Year competition.

Rogers (pictured, by Jay Fletcher) has sold more than 120 million records worldwide in his 50-plus years in show business, including timeless classics like The Gambler and the Dolly Parton duet, Islands In The Stream.

But Rogers is also a talented photographer, as his current 18-month calendar and books Kenny Rogers’ America, Your Friends & Mine, and This Is My Country show.

The award-winning entertainer, who will be releasing an autobiography this autumn and a new photography book in early 2012, will be putting his skills to work to help select the best Digital Camera’s Photographer of the Year entries from around the world.

“I am incredibly thrilled and flattered to be a judge for Digital Camera magazine’s Photographer of the Year competition,” Rogers says. “I have had the opportunity to view some of the entrants from last year’s contest and was truly amazed at the imagination and diversity shown in each photo. I look forward to being a part of this year’s event.”

Kenny is taking time out from touring in support of his latest album, The Love Of God, to judge the landscape category in the internationally renowned competition.

“We’re delighted to welcome Kenny to the judging panel,” Matt Pierce, Group Publisher of Digital Camera says. “The quality of his beautiful landscape and portrait photography and his passion for the art form makes him an ideal arbiter for this year’s awards. Photographer of the Year is already the world’s biggest competition of its type, but with Kenny’s help, it’s set to reach even greater heights.”

Digital Camera’s Photographer of the Year is open now to amateur and professional photographers all over the globe, with more than £20,000 of prizes on offer.
