New crafts magazine for girls

Ruby Loves, a new crafts magazine for girls, has been unveiled by DC Thomson.

The magazine comes in a recyclable paper bag, complete with a craft kit containing everything required to make six step-by-step projects.

Editor-in-Chief, Maria T. Welch, explained that Ruby Loves’ on-trend nostalgic feel will appeal equally to mums and girls, allowing for quality, creative time spent together, making crafts and memories.

She said, “The essence of Ruby Loves is on spending quality time with family, away from all the distractions of modern-day life and celebrity culture. The ‘mag in a bag’ will inspire creativity in girls, fuelling their imagination and encouraging them to achieve, through making crafts for themselves and for others. The magazine has a real vintage feel to it that should bring back happy memories for mums too!

“Many creative activities are now back in vogue but some traditional craft skills haven’t been passed down to the new generation of 8-12 year old girls, who are eager to know how to do them. Readers won’t need to hunt for cotton buds or double-sided sticky tape, because, uniquely, everything required will be at their fingertips. Every edition of Ruby Loves will include a complete craft kit to take the girls through our step-by-step projects. And it’s eco-friendly too since all the material is reusable or recyclable for crafts featured in the magazine.”

Inside the craft bag, readers will also find a unique secret code to unlock www.rubyloves.com, featuring on-line videos, patterns, templates and areas to pin their own craft creations.

DC Thomson staff members have seen through the print launch from concept, research and consumer insight to the brand’s development, design and content.

Head of Publishing, Neil O’Brien, said, “This is a new model for our magazines with an interesting blend of the old and the new. The creativity behind the product is inspiring and we believe we've produced a great magazine for a new generation of readers.”

Ruby Loves has been built around extensive research into the influences and consumer consumption of primary school aged girls.

Neil continued, “Our magazine is based on traditional family values like mums spending time with their daughters and making things together – but with a fresh and friendly approach. We know there’s nothing like Ruby Loves on the market and our research groups have proved that it is appealing to mums, inspiring for girls and a clear stand-out from the competition.

“The magazine is a highly interactive product which has been specifically designed for both print and digital format, and is being produced by the same editorial and design teams responsible for our other children’s titles. We’re very excited to be launching Ruby Loves, continuing DC Thomson’s tradition of investing in innovative products.”

The cover price is £4.99.
