NME unveils 13 Beatles covers

To coincide with the release of the re-mastered versions of the Beatles’ original studio albums, NME is publishing a special Beatles issue featuring 13 souvenir covers plus an exclusive interview with Paul McCartney.

12 of the albums from one of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands in music history will be celebrated with their own individual foil-framed NME covers. Inside the magazine, each of the albums will be reviewed and reappraised by contemporary writers, plus there’s an exclusive interview with Paul McCartney.

The special issue goes on sale September 9 – the same day as Apple Records releases the 13 re-mastered studio albums. Apple records will also be releasing Past Masters Vol. I and II, which will be packaged as one collection.

The 13th cover, celebrating the Magical Mystery Tour album, will be published with a limited print run of 1,000 and will be sold via NME.COM. Each of the 1,000 copies will be individually numbered, making it a true collector’s edition.

NME publishing director Paul Cheal says: “This is a unique celebration of the world's favourite band by the world's longest-running weekly music magazine - the cover artwork featured on the 13 special issues of NME is quite simply stunning.”

NME.COM will also feature an online poll the week before the release, asking music fans to rate their favourite Beatles albums, the result of which will be unveiled in the special issue.

Supporting the special issue and the release of the albums, NME Radio will host a special Beatles show on Sunday September 6th between 2pm and 4pm (and repeated 11pm to 1am) presented by Gary Crowley. The show features archive interview footage from the four Beatles: Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr, along with producer George Martin. It will also include previously unheard studio chat from the time of recording their classic songs, which is also featured on the mini documentaries available with each of the re-mastered CD’s available on September 9th.

Competitions will be run on NMETV and NME Radio, giving music fans the chance to win all thirteen covers.

The special issue goes on sale nationally on September 9th. The re-mastered album covers are: Please Please Me, With The Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles For Sale, Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour (special edition), The Beatles, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, Let It Be.
