Noelle McElhatton appointed editor of Marketing

Haymarket Brand Media has appointed Noelle McElhatton as editor of Marketing. She takes over from Gareth Jones, who leaves this month to join the digital agency Lbi.

McElhatton (pictured) is currently Editor in the Brand Media Central’s Creative Solutions Group.

Rachael Stilwell, publishing director of Brand Media, said: “Editor of Marketing is a great job and we saw a number of strong candidates. Noelle’s credentials as a journalist and editor, the commercial nous she has shown in the past year in Creative Solutions, together with her instinctive understanding of Marketing’s client readership and her experience of digital publishing, made her the stand-out candidate.”

McElhatton, a social studies and economics graduate of Trinity College Dublin, began her publishing career in books, at Random House editing sports titles.

She moved into magazines in the early 1990s, as reporter then deputy editor of Research magazine. She moved to Haymarket in 2000 as contributing editor, then editor of Marketing Direct. Along the way she built a strong track record in product development and innovation, in print publishing, events, awards and online. She is thoroughly versed in the marketing discipline and has a built an understanding of the role played by digital media and technology, as well as strong relationships with clients.

She has freelanced for the BBC, the Financial Times and Campaign, amongst others. Her live media work includes appearances on BBC Radio Four, defending direct marketing against national media criticism.
