North Devon Journal Editor named Woman of the Future

Chloe Hubbard, editor of the North Devon Journal, has been named Woman of the Future in Arts, Media and Culture in the annual Woman of the Future awards held this week by Caspian Media.

Chloe (pictured) beat off stiff competition from five other shortlisted candidates including two TV journalists and a museum curator.

The awards, aim to celebrate the achievements of women and create role models for the next generation.

Earlier this year at 29, Chloe became the youngest newspaper editor in the country and the first female editor of the North Devon Journal in its 200 year history. Chloe started her career at the North Devon Journal as a trainee in 2006.

Chloe was praised by the judges, who said: “Chloe stunned and overwhelmed us. She is just brilliant. She is bringing about huge changes to the media industry in really interesting and clever ways. She has a real calm intelligence and is hugely motivating – we would love to be a part of her team and we expect great things from her in the future.

“We can really see a stellar trajectory for her, and above all we can see how she will be a fantastic role model for other young people, not just women, trying to enter the media industry.”

Chloe said: "I'm completely overwhelmed to have won the women of the future awards, arts, media and culture category-particularly against such a strong short list of amazing women from across the sector. The awards were an incredible experience and I'm really looking forward to meeting the business mentor I have been assigned as part of the award.

"The Women of the Future awards will also mean I become involved with mentoring other young women in the arts, media and culture sector, something I'm really looking forward to. I think it's really important to identify talent early on and nurture it, I hope I can be part of encouraging other women to succeed in their chosen career.

"I'd like to thank Northcliffe for recognising my potential and being a pro women, forward thinking employer."
