PDF welcomes CAT announcement

The Press Distribution Forum (PDF) has welcomed the announcement by the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), upholding the Office of Fair Trading’s decision not to conduct a further review of the newspaper and magazine industry.

The PDF says: This brings to an end a long process and provides greater certainty for the industry to support investments and review best practice in the supply chain.

The PDF was pleased to note the comments by the CAT supporting the development of the Press Distribution Charter. The charter is currently being reviewed under the independent chairmanship of Michel Woodman, and the PDF would welcome discussion with all interested parties on improving its implementation and effectiveness.

Speaking of the recent developments, Mike Newman (pictured), Chair of the PDF said: “This is a good decision for the industry. It removes uncertainty at a time when our efforts are best spent on improving sales and service. I’m hopeful the announcement will open the door to a closer relationship with the retail associations and would encourage all parties in the industry to engage positively towards that goal.”
