PTC New Talent Awards – Winners announced

Nick Johnstone of UBM title Property Week has claimed the top award at the Periodicals Training Council’s inaugural New Talent Awards.

Johnstone (pictured with Jim Douglas, Editorial Director & Director of Sport, Outdoor and Automotive, at Future (left of pic) and host Alun Cochrane) was handed the Grand Prix 2012 at a ceremony at The Brewery on February 1. He was earlier named New Business Features Journalist of the Year.

Formerly the PTC New Journalist of the Year Awards, the event has been expanded for 2012 to reflect the range of roles across the publishing sector.

Immediate Media Co, the company recently formed from the amalgamation of BBC Magazines, Origin Publishing and Magicalia, was the biggest winner on the night, taking home three awards: New Publisher of the Year (Martin Stahel); News Consumer Specialist/Customer Journalist of the Year (Louise Ridley); and New Marketing Executive of the Year (Caroline Motson).

ShortList.com’s Tom Cullen scooped the New Editor of the Year Award while colleague Amy Grier from ShortList Media stablemate Stylist was named New Consumer Journalist of the Year.

There were also wins for Bauer Media, Hearst Magazines UK, IPC Media, JLD Media, Newsquest Specialist Media, Ocean Media Group, and UBM Medica.

Stacey Bartlett of the University of Central Lancashire was named Most Promising Undergraduate Student Journalist of the Year while Rakesh Ramchurn from City University, London claimed the Postgraduate category.

Loraine Davies, director of the Periodicals Training Council (PTC), said: “The PTC does a great deal of work to support and encourage the talent that makes our sector such a success, and this year’s awards are a real celebration of the variety of people and range of skills that make publishing a core part of the UK’s creative industries.

“Our congratulations to all the winners, and also to those shortlisted and highly commended, for their achievements.”
