Originally established in 2001, Silicon Republic has been providing news regarding tech and startups for over 20 years. Recently, says Pelcro, they realised it’s time to take the next step forward and introduce subscriptions.
Elaine Burke, Editor at Silicon Republic in an interview with Business Post stated that, “part of this was about stepping up and making sure we didn't just survive the impact of the pandemic but emerged as a thriving, futureproofed publication that our readers can value.”
This was the first time Silicon Republic has ventured into subscription services and gated content, a decision which was originally met with internal concerns about the impact on readership; specifically around how readers would react, if it would allow enough people to actually have the ability to read their content, consumers’ willingness to buy, etc.
Silicon Republic worked closely with the Pelcro platform and team to introduce a metered paywall, that would still allow readers to access a number of free pieces of content before being prompted to select from a monthly, annual, and two-year premium subscription offering.
They are also leveraging both individual and group subscriptions to make their content accessible to readers on a personal level but also companies and corporations who would be interested in subscribing for their employees.
“We have so much exciting content in the works and we're looking forward to where this journey takes us, navigated as always by the goal of serving our readership,” said Elaine Burke.
“From the development of the initial paywall model to the finalisation and announcement of the subscription offerings on the website, we've thoroughly enjoyed working closely together to empower them to take a step in the right direction to accomplish their goals and look forward to continuing to do so in the future,” says Pelcro.
