Sunday Newspaper Market Tarnished by Cover Price War

News International and Northern & Shell have been slammed by angry newsagents for devaluing the Sunday newspaper market with poor editorial content and low cover prices.

NFRN National President Kieran McDonnell (pictured) said last Friday: “Any opportunity to give the Sunday market a real turnover and profit boost has been wasted with the Sun and Star producing poor quality newspapers that are priced at just 50p.

“Is it any wonder that NFRN members who account for 30 per cent of newspaper sales, are reconsidering their displays and giving their support to publishers like Trinity Mirror who remain confident that their products are worth their £1 cover price and who are not tempted to follow suit.

“For its efforts to ensure that everyone in the newstrade remains viable Trinity Mirror is to be applauded. Once again this weekend I will be urging members to give their Sunday titles their full support.”
