Telegraph’s digital audience boosted by Olympics

The August ABC Multiplatform figures (ABCe), released yesterday, show a record month for Global and UK digital traffic for The Telegraph, boosted by soaring growth during the Olympics.

According to the Telegraph: The data shows the Telegraph’s strength in the market following the media group’s unparalleled commercial, digital and editorial success during the Olympics.

The August figures show that The Telegraph had 53.9 million global unique browsers last month, with an average of 2.8 million daily unique browsers. Coverage of the Olympics closing ceremony pushed traffic to a daily record high. Over the two-week period of the Olympics, visits to Telegraph Sport increased by 270% from the same period a year earlier.

Separately, independent research (NRS Print and Digital Data) confirms that The Telegraph is Britain's no.1 quality daily. The Telegraph is read by 1.9 million each day in print and online, surpassing the audiences of the Guardian, Times and Independent. The new 'total daily reach figures', which combine print and web readership, are the first to be calculated that are officially recognised by the advertising industry.

Tony Gallagher, Editor, The Daily Telegraph, said: “These record audience figures – both global and UK - highlight the Telegraph’s Olympic success.  The August ABC figures also showed that The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph were both up month-on-month thanks to agenda-leading editorial, standalone 'London 2012' supplements during The Games and a hugely successful street selling campaign which continued into the Paralympics.”
