Brian Hossack: “We are incredibly pleased with how West Coast Today has been received by both visitors to the site and our advertisers.”

Wyvex Media has announced that West Coast Today went live in February and is an umbrella for readers of the Oban Times, Argyllshire Advertiser, Arran Banner, Campbeltown Courier and Lochaber Times.

Brian Hossack, Wyvex’s head of online content, said: “We are incredibly pleased with how West Coast Today has been received by both visitors to the site and our advertisers.

“It gives us a powerful, modern platform to showcase all of the exclusive local content our teams are generating every day on their patches. The whole site has been custom-built and designed to make the user experience as smooth as possible, and we feel it is among the best out there.

"We now cover the West Highlands and Islands in their entirety, all in one place.

“We believe there is a real market for boots-on-the-ground local journalism, journalism which not only holds decision-makers to account, but also connects with communities and showcases the achievements of the people who live on the west coast and on our islands."

Brian, who joined Wyvex in 2023 after 10 years as editor of the Greenock Telegraph, added: “We are delighted with the growth we are already seeing. The feedback from our readers has been tremendous, West Coast Today is already a valued and trusted place for local news and we are confident that this subscriber base will continue to grow as the brand becomes more established.

“This is an exciting new chapter for the business and the company has invested a significant sum of money in making sure that the next step in our digital transformation is a successful one. The surge in audience we have already witnessed fills us with confidence that a bright future lies ahead.”

Wyvex says it has been a double celebration for the team, who were also named as winners of the new campaign of the year category at the recent Highland and Islands Press Awards for their Invest in the West drive.
