The Autosport 60th anniversary edition goes on sale Thursday, August 26, 60 years and a day after the magazine’s inaugural publication. In his first editorial, founder editor Gregor Grant promised “a service which cannot be surpassed, or even equalled, by any journal other than one devoted entirely to motor sporting affair”, and, says publishers Haymarket, this week’s bumper 330-page special issue more than lives up to the billing.
The ads team also enjoyed its most successful issue in a decade, generating over £115k in revenue. Highlights include ads from 11 different manufacturers, four bound-in campaigns and a tip-in for each decade.
Autosport editor Andy van de Burgt said: “Creating the biggest-ever issue of Autosport presented a massive challenge. Getting classic cars and famous drivers together was like herding cats, and finding suitable venues for the tests to take place was even harder. But we pulled it off and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved.”
Motorsport Division publishing director Peter Higham said: “This week’s issue is a real credit to all those involved and shows that careful planning, creativity and hard work pays off.”
The issue will be launched at an anniversary party at Kensington Roof Gardens on Wednesday, with the stars of 60 years of motor racing in attendance.
