Connect acquires Nationwide Bowler

Connect Publications (Scotland) Limited has added the bowls magazine, Nationwide Bowler, and its website, to its growing stable of titles.

Connect Publications, a subsidiary of one of Scotland’s largest contract publishers, Connect Communications, has acquired the magazine and website, and all of the rights and copyrights, from PSP Publishing Limited, publishers of Bunkered golf magazine and No1, Scotland’s glamorous glossy magazine. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

More than 15,000 copies of Nationwide Bowler are sent quarterly to 7,700 bowling clubs in the UK.

Connect, which has offices in Paisley and Edinburgh, will publish the next issue of Nationwide Bowler in June, and looks forward to bringing its readers, throughout the UK, the best news and features from the world of bowling, and providing advertisers with the best possible reach for their products and services.

Plans are already under way for enhancing both the magazine and its digital offering to keep its readership up to date with all that is happening in bowls.

Connect director Alan Ramsay said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Connect as we continue to increase the number of titles we own. We launched the first of our titles in 2010 with Scottish Dental, Irish Dental and Scottish Primary Care for the health sector.

“This year we are doing extending the breadth and reach of our magazine business, not only with Nationwide Bowler, but with the launch of the inaugural Scottish Dental Show at Hampden Park on 24 and 25 May, which has already sold out thanks to the support of more than 100 trade exhibitors and the line up of 30 industry experts as speakers.

“Nationwide Bowler is a top quality, profitable magazine and we look forward to developing the title in print and digital formats. The website will relaunch completely in September 2012.”

PSP Publishing’s Paul Grant added: “We have refocused our business, and looked for a suitable publisher to take over the care of one of our most successful titles. We wish Connect every success in the future with the magazine and website.”
