Dennis and Nokia launch NFC connected MagBook

Dennis Publishing today announces its publishing partnership with phone manufacturer Nokia to launch the world’s first NFC (Near Field Communication) connected MagBook.

The Nokia Smartphone Guide, that hits the shelves today, will enable readers to link directly to Nokia’s official Facebook page (via communication between their Nokia mobile phone and a microchip embedded in the MagBook) and ‘Like’ the product - a move that gives us a glimpse in to the future of marketing via magazines and books.

The Nokia Smartphone MagBook is a complete companion aimed both at Nokia customers who already have a Nokia phone but want to find out more about the company’s extensive range of services, as well as people looking to buy one of the latest Nokia smartphones. The guide also takes a peek into Nokia's future plans, including its partnership with Microsoft, developments of its Symbian platform and usage of new technologies, offering a wealth of useful information on the world's biggest handset manufacturer and its range of products and services.

The MagBook has been edited by Dennis’ top mobile phone website editor, Clare Hopping of Know Your Mobile, who says: “It was really exciting to work on this MagBook with an inspiring brand like Nokia. Just like Know Your Mobile, Nokia is constantly evolving and changing to fit in with the rest of the market and this ethos shows in both parties’ enthusiasm throughout the project. The cover itself is NFC connected, so if you hover your NFC enabled handset over it, a microchip will automatically prompt you to ‘Like’ Nokia on Facebook.”

NFC (Near Field Communication) is based on inductive coupling which enables communication with an NFC chip which may be built into a poster, Oyster card reader or MagBook, allowing users to be presented with and exchange information, make payments and load data onto their phone instantly. Having the latest NFC technology embedded into the Nokia Smartphone Guide allows readers to interact with the Nokia brand by accessing its popular Facebook page through the NFC chip.

MagBooks Publisher Dharmesh Mistry added: “This kind of technological innovation demonstrates why magazine publishing remains such an exciting place – and to think that these developments are only in their infancy makes it all the more enticing. The marketing and commercial possibilities of this kind of technology point firmly to the future, and Dennis is proud to be at the forefront of developments.

The Nokia Smartphone Guide will be on sale on 25th August, priced £5.99, initially exclusive to WHSmith, shortly followed by Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury & Asda, as well as from Magbooks.com
