Future to launch new magazine iCAR

Future has announced that it is launching iCAR, a new magazine created to satisfy growing consumer interest in more efficient, intelligent and technologically advanced cars.

On sale 18th May, iCAR is the UK’s first magazine dedicated to this expanding market, and will be Future’s first launch of 2011, marking a new direction for the automotive portfolio.

In a bid to make cars more efficient and sustainable, there is a wave of new vehicles arriving at dealerships that feature advanced technology of which the consumer has limited awareness and understanding; Future has, therefore, identified the need for an informative magazine dedicated to this revolution being seen in automotive design.

iCAR's purpose is to excite and educate consumers about this new breed of vehicle (’Car 2.0’), and to inspire them to purchase cars that are more efficient, intelligent and fun.

Aiming to be the UK’s definitive guide to more efficient motoring, iCAR will cater for tech-savvy early adopters, as well as the ‘thinking man’; providing an authoritative voice for those who are excited about great automotive design, cutting-edge technology and environmentally sustainable transport solutions.

iCAR will be produced in Future’s Bath office and edited by Jeremy Laird, one of the UK's most widely published technology journalists. iCAR’s team of key contributors includes TV personality and Car 2.0 guru Robert Llewellyn, Evo and Independent motoring journalist John Simister and former Top Gear magazine Road Test Editor Tom Stewart.

Jeremy Laird, Editor of iCAR said: “iCAR is the voice of a new generation of efficient, technologically advanced and desirable cars. While traditional media are uneasy about modern motoring trends and technology shifts, we’re hard wired with the latest automotive science. We love all cars but we’re most excited by dramatic new developments in hybrid and electric power-trains, diesel and petrol engines and in-car technology.

“iCAR is your authoritative guide to the most relevant, sustainable and fun new cars available today. The revolution is coming. Enjoy the ride with iCAR!”

Gez Jones, Associate Publisher for Future’s automotive portfolio added: "The concept for iCAR was first developed to fill a small niche in the market but, due to the effect of converging market forces over the last two years (and with traditional media remaining resistant to change); this small gap has grown into a gaping hole. iCAR will satisfy the need for an authoritative voice on Car 2.0 and be a vibrant environment for consumers interested in ever more efficient and intelligent cars at the cutting edge of automotive design.

“With three revolutions in engine development predicted within the next 30-years, accompanied by a myriad of innovative driver aids and in-car tech systems; iCAR has an exciting future ahead building consumer awareness and driving desire."

On sale on 18th May, iCAR will be a quarterly publication; it will run at 132 pages and will retail at £4.99. It will also be available via the Zinio platform for tablets and iPads. Visit www.icarmagazine.co.uk  from 14th March for more information.
