Green Star Media acquires two brands from Electric Word

Specialist digital publishing group Green Star Media has acquired Peak Performance and Sports Injury Bulletin from AIM-listed Electric Word for an undisclosed sum.

The two sports performance content brands enjoy a worldwide audience for their coverage of the latest research in athletic performance and recovery. Green Star Media plans to reinvigorate the brands, taking them to a wider audience.

Jonathan Pye, the editor of both brands for the past 20 years, is joining Green Star Media and will lead their digital development, with particular emphasis on further exploiting the US market.

In May, Green Star Media secured a mixture of equity and loan funding from Chrysalis VCT to support its strategy to develop digital content products and acquire special interest magazines and websites.

Andrew Griffiths, managing director of Green Star Media, said: “The acquisition of Peak Performance and Sports Injury Bulletin fit well into our portfolio of brands that we plan to enlarge further over the coming months. These publications have a loyal following among their audience of athletes and sport scientists and we intend to build on that base.”

Julian Turner, managing director of Electric Word, said: “Peak Performance and Sports Injury Bulletin are no longer core to our business, and we wish Green Star Media and everyone who works on them well with their future development.”
