Guardian US appoints Jill Abramson as political columnist

Guardian US last week announced that Jill Abramson has joined as a political columnist. Abramson will contribute her perspective on key issues relevant to American politics and society.

Her formal appointment follows the success of recent pieces she has written about the 2016 presidential election, says the Guardian.

“We’re completely thrilled that Jill has joined the team at Guardian US, building on our existing relationship and the very strong impact her columns have had to date”, said Lee Glendinning, editor, Guardian US.

“For more than 40 years, Jill has been a trailblazer for women in journalism, and brings an unparalleled knowledge of the relationship between politics and the media in the US. We’re delighted to add her experience, depth and gravitas to our distinct take on this fascinating election” Glendinning continued.

Abramson, formerly executive editor of the New York Times, will write every two weeks, providing insight and analysis as the presidential campaign gathers momentum.

Working alongside the Guardian’s team of political reporters, writers and commentators, she will contribute to fresh and lively coverage of the race for the White House, which also includes a seven-day-a-week election liveblog, and theCampaign Minute, an immersive, mobile-first daily digest of the must-know moments, says the Guardian.
