Hearst augments London-based Ad Sales and Technology Groups

Hearst Magazines International (HMI) yesterday announced several key appointments to newly created positions as the company continues to expand its global focus.

Clare Gorman has been appointed director of sales operations; Simon Reed joins as international trading director; and Danny Doyle has been named head of digital advertising operations, UK and EMEA, joining Than Khine who was appointed head of programmatic, UK and EMEA, earlier this year. The announcement was made by Gary Ellis, HMI chief digital officer, and Andy Hart, HMI senior vice president and chief revenue officer.

“Modern sales teams need deep cross-platform flexibility to maximize every opportunity,” Hart said. “Clare and Simon are exceptionally seasoned sales and marketing executives who will focus on building sophisticated global, integrated campaigns for marketers that scale and deliver results.”

“As we continue to expand Hearst Magazines’ digital focus and impact around the world, the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa are key growth-drivers,” Ellis said. “Than is a skilled programmatic sales professional with profound knowledge of media revenue operations and strategy, and Danny brings more than a decade of experience managing and delivering successful digital campaigns. Together, this robust team will optimize marketers’ brands and messages for performance, efficiency and success.”

Gorman will drive overall strategy and guide HMI’s 360-degree sales organization. She has a decade of digital media experience specializing in business operations, processes, systems and working practices. Prior to joining Hearst, Gorman was senior director of international business operations at AOL; before that, she was head of sales excellence (operations) at Microsoft, for the UK and Europe.

Reed will be responsible for all top-line trading deals for HMI, and will work closely with Hearst Magazines in the U.S., and the organization’s global owned and operated companies, JVs and licensees. Previously, he was director of trading, EMEA, at AOL Inc.; before that, he held positions at Microsoft Advertising as head of trading, UK and multi-national, and head of video. From 2006 to 2012, Reed was associate director at Vizeum, working with brands including Heinz, Twentieth Century Fox, Panasonic and Coca-Cola.

In his role, Khine drives revenue and profitability for HMI’s UK and EMEA markets through the deployment of data-driven programmatic, overseeing the London-based programmatic team and working in collaboration with international and U.S. counterparts. Prior to joining Hearst, Khine was agency engagement manager for the Asia-Pacific region at AppNexus, leading the portfolio for GroupM PBU and Xaxis. He was EMEA video consulting lead at Google from 2011 to 2014, launching Google AdExchange for Video and the DFP by Google Video ad server across EMEA markets. Earlier in his career, he held commercial and advertising operations positions at Instant Access Technologies, CMC Markets, Abacus e-Media and Sainsbury’s.

Doyle will oversee UK and EMEA advertising operations, and is responsible for implementing and managing ad operations processes, leading a six-person team. He was previously deputy ad operations manager of commercial and development at the Guardian News and Media, where he led the development and rollout of ad products. Before that, Doyle was commercial ad operations team leader at The Guardian, having started at the brand as an online advertising executive.
