heat launches campaign to beat January blues

Bauer Media’s heat, the celebrity weekly, has launched a multi-platform editorial campaign to help beat the January blues.

Launching this week, the ‘heat makes you happy’ campaign aims to brighten up readers’ days with innovative and fun editorial across print, online, radio and TV, say the publishers.

Ahead of ‘Blue Monday’ on 20th January, heat are calling for readers and celebrities to sign a petition to make the most depressing day of the year a public holiday in 2015. This year’s ‘Blue Monday’, will also see special activity including ‘kitten cam’ – a live stream into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home where readers can watch cute cats and even adopt one afterwards.

Heat will also be launching ‘Insta-gran’ - a search for the happiest gran in the UK. Throughout January, heat will be putting a call out to readers to put forward the happiest and most inspiring gran. Readers will be encouraged to vote daily with a prize of a spa day for two for the ultimate winner.

Heat magazine will be running a series of celebrity self-help guides, providing readers with all the tips they need to be as happy as a celebrity. Part one sees Joey Essex, Phoebe-Lettice Thompson, Keith Lemon and Jamie Oliver share their tips on how to live the good life. Part two sees Frankie Essex’s guide to putting on makeup (badly), Karl Pilkington’s guide to positivity, Spencer Matthews’ guide to love and Charlotte Geordie Shore’s guide to a fun night out.

Heatworld.com will be running a daily happy hour from 12 – 2pm, allowing readers to have a break from work by entering celebrity games, such as the celebrity staring contests, where you can challenge yourself to stare off the likes of Joey Essex, Dermot O’Leary and Pixie Lott. There will also be galleries of smiling pets to cheer you up, ‘extra happy news’ of the day and competitions, as well as the search for the happiest celebrity in the UK.

Other happy hours see heat radio (3 – 4pm each weekday) asking listeners to pick their happiest tunes to get a shout out plus the chance to win daily prizes, whilst heat TV will be hosting their happy hour weekdays at 6pm throughout the month with special playlists alongside short celebrity interviews. Programmes include: Banish The Blues & Roar! 50 Feelgood Pop Songs, The Best Karaoke Party Ever!, The Cheesiest Party Ever!, Heat Makes You Happy, 20 Funniest Lyrics In Pop. Heat’s Happy News will also share the best ‘happy news’ every weekday at 4pm.

Richard Howard, publisher of heat, commented: “Everybody knows that January can be a tough month, but at heat we pride ourselves on being able to cheer our audience up and make them laugh. This campaign is the perfect antidote to the January blues and we hope our consumers will back our crusade to make ‘Blue Monday’ a public holiday next year, as well as voting in our ‘Insta-gran’ search!”
