James McMahon appointed editor of Kerrang

Bauer Media has announced that James McMahon has been appointed as Editor of the UK's “loudest and most exciting music weekly”, Kerrang!

James McMahon (pictured) joins from Future Publishing, where he is Deputy Editor on Gamesmaster.

James joins Kerrang! magazine as it celebrates its 30th birthday in 2011 with year on year sales growth bucking the market trend in the most recent ABCs.

With the weekly magazine at its beating heart, Kerrang! is Bauer’s most extensive multi-platform brand, engaging with its young, dynamic audience in print, online, via K! podcasts and K! Tour, on air, on TV and at the famous K! Awards. Kerrang! is widely acknowledged as the world’s biggest 360 degree youth culture brand for all rock genres, fully engaged with its audiences across all platforms, says Bauer.

Commenting on his new role, James McMahon, said: “When I was a kid I wanted to be the singer in Slayer. Then I found out that they already had a singer so I decided I wanted to be the editor of Kerrang! instead. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to fulfil my dream. Furthermore, I am excited to be joining at a time when the rock scene is so healthy, especially in Britain. Kerrang! has been the guardian of all that's great and heavy for 30 years, I'm looking forward to booting off 30 more.”

Phil Alexander, Associate Publisher, Kerrang! and MOJO, added: "James brings with him a vast range of experience and expertise, but most significant of all is the fact that he is a rock fan. In his younger days he promoted gigs, when he got older he learnt how to translate that same passion on to the page. I look forward to working with him as he takes Kerrang! to the next level."

James will take up his new post on 27 June.
