Kerrang! Awards to coincide with 30th anniversary

Next year, Kerrang! Magazine celebrates its 30th Birthday on 6th June, and the The Relentless Energy Drink Kerrang! Awards will take place on Thursday 9 June, to coincide with their anniversary week.

This date also marks the eve of the Download Festival, which Kerrang! Magazine is the print media partner for - extending the birthday fun into the weekend and beyond with three days of live music to follow an evening of rock 'n' roll excess and metal madness.

Kerrang! first launched on 6 June 1981 as a supplement with the now defunct Sounds magazine, as the world's first specialist metal magazine. The name Kerrang!, now an iconic and world-renowned name, was picked to imitate the sound of a distorted powerchord… although at the time it had more Rs! The first ever issue had AC/DC's Angus Young as the cover star.

Kerrang! Editor Nichola Browne said the following: "Next year's Kerrang! Awards is set to be the biggest and best yet! We're going to pull out all the stops to ensure that Kerrang!'s 30th birthday is celebrated in suitably decadent and debauched style."

Kerrang! Managing Director Stuart Williams added, "Kerrang! enters its 30th year stronger than at any point in its history, living life loud as the UK's most exciting youth media brand. Our passion for taking rock music to the widest audience possible is greater than ever and we intend to celebrate our birthday in our customary debauched manner."

According to Bauer, Kerrang! is now the world's biggest selling music weekly and was the fastest growing music title at the Jan-Jun '10 ABC. Kerrang! is a multimedia platform now boasting online, radio, TV, regular video podcasts and events.
