Michael Dell to lead PPA Business Media Group

Michael Dell, Senior Vice-President of business and data publisher IHS and Managing Director of IHS Jane's, has been appointed Chairman of the PPA Business Media Group (BMG).

Dell (pictured) takes up the role with immediate effect, succeeding James Hanbury, Group Managing Director of Incisive Media.

Dell will be responsible for driving the PPA’s activities for business media members in collaboration with the 14-strong BMG board, comprised of senior representatives from the UK’s leading business publishers. He will be supported by PPA CEO Barry McIlheney, PPA Business Media Manager Joe Hames, and BMG Consultant Jerry Gosney.

Dell has global responsibility for IHS’s editorial and publishing activities, in which capacity he leads IHS’s Jane’s, IHS Fairplay, IHS McCloskey and energy editorial, and also manages all internal editorial operations covering workflows, formats and platforms.

These responsibilities are an expansion of his role as Managing Director of IHS Jane's, a post he assumed in September 2008. The central theme of his career has been the commercial development of information, media and consulting businesses as they adapt to the internet-based Information Age.

Barry McIlheney said: “I’d like to thank James Hanbury for his contribution to the PPA over the past year and to welcome Michael Dell as the new PPA BMG Chairman. Michael is a leading figure in the data and business publishing sector and brings a respected, authoritative voice as Chairman of the BMG Board.

“Business publishing has changed beyond all recognition in recent years and in 2012 our members are facing a challenging but exciting multi-platform future, where there is ever-greater potential to deliver the trusted and professionally-produced content that the UK’s business community relies upon.

“I look forward to working with Michael and the BMG Board over the next 12 months to support our members in this exciting period of change.”

Michael Dell said: "Our focus at IHS is on supporting customers through the creation of strong, multiplatform products, services and events which combine critical information, daily insight and leading edge research into single online, mobile and hardcopy products.

"This mirrors the trend across the publishing industry towards a multi-platform, multi-format future. I look forward to working with the PPA and its members to take best business advantage of this dynamic future.”
