Miles 33 to debut new products at World Publishing Expo

Miles 33 will be demonstrating new editorial technology at IFRA's World Publishing Expo in Amsterdam in October.

GNi4, a new, responsive design-based, editorial client will be shown at the Expo. The client, which connects to the GN4 Editorial CMS, is HTML5-based and automatically adjusts itself to fit the screen of the device used to run it. GNi4 gives flexibility to journalists and editors as it can run in a browser (Chromebook, Windows or Mac), iPad or Surface pro, with Android support coming in 2015.

This lightweight editing client does not compromise on functionality, says Miles 33. GNi4 lets you package-up multi-media content and publish articles directly to web or mobile. GNi4 lets the journalist crop one image multiple ways, ready for every channel the story will air on, thus streamlining the multi-channel capability. Users can access personal folders, browse archived content, access wire, etc. all without compromise. The interface is highly user friendly and lets users arrange views and tools to suit their individual preferences, then save them as workspaces for use at a later time.

Also being shown for the first time, is the integration between GN4 and the mobile products from VirtualCom Interactive, a company that Miles 33 recently acquired. It was already possible to publish content from GN4 to VirtualCMS (the Web CMS), but now users can obtain a preview of what the content will look like, before committing.

Even more exciting, says Miles 33, is the integration of the inline edit function into GNi4. With it, users can make last minute edits to content (even after publishing), right from the preview, without ever leaving their GN4 client.

Another development is the blending of VirtualNewspaper (the PDF-based ePaper system) and PaperEvolution (the dynamic feed-driven reader app) to offer a mobile publishing system that can deliver updated news 24 hours a day, yet still conforms to audit bureau's standards of subscription sales. It is built on a delivery infrastructure that includes iOS, Android and HTML5 and is powered by a backoffice that offers newsrooms a high level of control to build online and mobile editions. The same BackOffice includes more than a dozen monetisation tools, says Miles 33.

Finally, in an era where newspapers are increasingly competing with online-only news aggregators who use automated content selection algorithms, Miles 33 envisions giving newsrooms the tools to compete. The goal is to offer newsrooms a series of automated publishing tools they can utilise to streamline the print pagination process as well as any digital publishing. At IFRA, Miles 33 will demonstrate some automated print pagination tools with an aim to solicit newspapers' feedback and input to further refine these concepts. The ultimate goal is to help newsrooms ease the print production load, freeing the way to become true content producers, allowing them to choose any number, or type, of publishing destinations, says the company.
