New partwork: Military Watches

Military Watches, a new fortnightly partwork from Eaglemoss looking at military-inspired watches and timepieces, goes on sale 19 February, at a launch price of £3.99.

According to distributors COMAG: Looking back at watch design through the 20th century, with a particular emphasis on their military use, Military Watches will tell the story of many of the groundbreaking, technological advances and improvements that were inspired by the military, who rely on timepieces for accuracy and reliability.

Building into a stunning collection, every issue of Military Watches will carry a military-inspired timepiece based on an iconic, often rare, watch that was originally designed for and worn by armed forces around the world in the 20th century, whether on land, at sea or in the air.

Each timepiece in the Military Watches collection includes a Japanese quartz movement, is water resistant and is guaranteed against defects in manufacture for two years.

In addition to the covermounted timepiece, every issue of Military Watches will come with a 16-page magazine telling the story of the featured watch and ongoing development of all military watches.

As well as all this, Military Watches will look at some of the biggest names and most important milestones in watchmaking history.

* Issue No.1: On sale 19/02/14 for a month at the introductory price of £3.99 (€5.99), will carry a U.S. Army infantry field watch from the Vietnam War in the 1970s.

* Issue No.2: On sale 06/03/14 at the special price of £6.99 (€10.99), will carry an observation aviator’s watch as used by the German Luftwaffe in the 1940s.

* Issue No.3 On sale 20/03/14 at the regular price of £9.99 (€15.99), will have a watch from the 1970s based on what a commando from the British Special Boat Squadron would have worn.

Military Watches will be supported by a huge TV advertising campaign from 18 February, as well as an ongoing marketing promotion using e-mail, online and social media.
