News UK taps into the GAA

The Sun, The Irish Sun, The Times & Sunday Times are to show highlights of Gaelic Football and Hurling across all digital platforms.

Starting last weekend, clips and highlights of Ireland’s two famous national games will now be available to digital subscribers to The Sun, The Irish Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times.

From the Clash of the Ash to Breaking Balls, they will have access via PC, smartphone or tablet to the best Hurling action, the world’s oldest and fastest field sport, as well as to Gaelic Football with each county dreaming of a final on Croke Park’s hallowed turf, says News UK.

This includes clips and highlights from 85 All-Ireland Championship matches and even more from the National Leagues, which will also be available in the U.S, Australia, New Zealand and Canada on the Irish Sun app.

Members of all News UK subscription packages (both print and digital) already have access to video coverage of Premier League and FA Cup football, Aviva Premiership rugby and England international cricket.

This addition of the best GAA action will ensure a great summer of sports coverage for all our readers, says the publisher.

Mike Darcey, CEO of News UK, said: “This increases the diversity of the unique sporting offer across our titles for both existing fans and newcomers to these great national sports. With top flight cricket, football and rugby already in our bundles, a subscription to any of our titles provides extraordinary value for lovers of sport.”

Paul Clarkson, Editor of The Irish Sun, said: “The GAA is unlike any other sport. It is the pride and passion of communities and the heartbeat of a sporting summer. It is very exciting to be able to use cutting edge technology to bring hurling and football to fans at home and abroad. It will also help open up GAA to an entirely new audience around the globe.”

Peter McKenna, GAA Commercial and Stadium Director, said: “The GAA is pleased to confirm arrangements for our clip rights which will see us partner with a leading media organisation with a truly global reach. This arrangement will mean the best scores, saves and general action from our big matches will be available as the games unfold keeping supporters everywhere right up to speed with the football and hurling championships. We look forward to seeing the reach of our games expand even further.”
