News UK to supply newspapers to British troops in Germany

News UK has announced that it is joining forces with NAAFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes) to supply daily copies of News UK titles to British troops at military bases across Germany.

From this week, The Sun, The Sun on Sunday, The Times and The Sunday Times will be sold in all NAAFI shops in Germany at the UK cover price, seven days a week.

News UK has agreed to pay for all daily operation and delivery costs, after it was announced that the previous supplier would cease their current three-day contract.

There are more than 5,000 British troops stationed across Germany- Paderborn, Sennelager, Bielefeld and Guetersloh. The newspapers will be printed in Belgium then transported via News UK’s International operations network.

The German military bases are home to the largest concentration of British troops permanently stationed outside the UK.

News UK Chief Operating Officer, David Dinsmore, said: “Whether it’s using our newspapers to campaign for a war memorial for the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan or the annual Sun Military Awards, which celebrate the bravest and best from the Army, RAF and Royal Navy - News UK has a proud history of supporting the men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving the United Kingdom.

“Being away from home, these hard-working troops deserve to have access to the award-winning British journalism for which our titles are renowned for. We’re delighted to be able to ensure our troops can grab a copy of The Sun, The Sun on Sunday, The Times or The Sunday Times every day of the week.”

NAAFI’s Head of Operations, John Goddard, said: “News UK have again shown their full commitment to the Armed Forces by supplying this offer. This is fantastic news for the community of British Forces in Germany and reinforces NAAFI’s commitment to bringing a ‘taste of home’ to Service personnel and their families stationed in Germany.”

Commander British Forces Germany, Brigadier Ian Bell, said: “I am delighted that News UK and NAAFI are working together to provide this service to military personnel and their families who are serving in Germany. It’s great to see corporate organisations contributing as part of the Armed Forces Covenant to ensure our people are well-supported while serving overseas.”
