Nick Golding appointed Editor of LGC

EMAP, the content and networking business, has announced the appointment of Nick Golding as Editor of LGC (Local Government Chronicle).

Nick has been acting editor of LGC for the last few months, before which he led Health Service Journal’s news desk for three years. Nick oversaw the expansion of HSJ’s news team from eight to 12 journalists and was instrumental in helping to increase the title’s online news offering, including by introducing services such as the HSJ Live rolling news blog.

Nick, who began his career on local newspapers in Birmingham and north London, held various roles including news editor on LGC between 2005 and 2009. He had a spell as magazine editor on Community Care before moving back to EMAP. He temporarily re-joined LGC in 2013 to cover the editor’s maternity leave.

Nick said: “I am delighted to be returning to LGC on a permanent basis. There can be few more exciting areas in which to be a journalist than to cover local government right now.

“Expectation is growing that Whitehall’s powers really will be devolved, presenting a huge opportunity for local government. However, councils are all too aware of their reduced resources. I look forward to working with people in councils everywhere to ensure that LGC offers what they need to help their authority prosper in these difficult times.”

Andy Baker, MD, Public Sector, EMAP, said: “Nick has vast experience in the public sector and has exciting plans for the LGC brand. Please join me in congratulating Nick, and help him in leading and shaping LGC's development.”
