Play celebrates 200th issue

Play, the PlayStation 3 magazine, has reached the 200th issue milestone.

Now in its 15th year, the magazine from award-winning videogames publisher Imagine Publishing is to celebrate the landmark issue with a bumper prize giveaway and limited edition gifts.

On sale 23 December, Play issue 200 will offer readers three free gifts, including a limited edition art print, a trophy guide and a special edition DVD. In addition to this, Play will also be giving readers the chance to win a competition with the top prize valued at a staggering £5,000.

“Few magazines live to see 100, so for Play to reach issue 200 is a huge milestone, not just for us but for the industry,” Editor Ryan King said. “The issue is a proud celebration of Play and PlayStation’s legacy. Here’s to the next 200!”

Editor In Chief Aaron Asadi added, “Play is a brand that really means something to the industry – it’s got genuine history and it’s right that we should celebrate that. This really is a stellar achievement and we are delighted to be able to share that with the Play community.”

Launched in 1995 Play claims to be the UK’s longest-running PlayStation- dedicated magazine. First released on the eve of the first PlayStation’s arrival, Play’s lifespan has run parallel to the success of Sony’s groundbreaking console series. The first magazine to debut Lara Croft, the first magazine to feature Gran Theft Auto III, as well as the first for many, many other videogames milestones, Play has a history unlike any other, say the publishers.
