PPA announces line-up for annual conference

The Professional Publishers Association (PPA) has announced the line-up and agenda for its annual PPA Conference on May 9, 2012.

Called Publishing+, it will explore key topics influencing the magazine publishing industry, including audience demands, evolving commercial models and emerging technologies.

High-profile speakers confirmed for his year’s event include PCC Chairman, Lord Hunt; Shadow Minister for Culture, Media & Sport, Helen Goodman; Economist Group CEO, Andrew Rashbass; Immediate Media CEO, Tom Bureau; Shortlist Media CEO, Mike Soutar; IPC Media Editorial Development Director, Andy Cowles and The Big Issue UK Editor, Paul McNamee.

• 09:35 – 10:25 BRANDS: Platform-agnostic, channel-neutral, whatever you want to call it, it’s really all about the brands. Hear the case studies of what's worked and why for PPA consumer and business members over the year

• 11:00 – 12:00 AUDIENCES: Within this multi-platform world, some strands seem to suit certain brands better than others. Hear the success stories from magazines, mobile, Twitter, tablets, events, and around the worldwide web.

• 12:00 – 12:45 FREEDOM: New PCC Chairman Lord Hunt presents his vision for a free, self-regulating press, and heads up a distinguished panel (including Helen Goodman, Shadow Minister for Culture, Media & Sport) looking at the role of magazines in the post-Leveson world

•16:00 – 16:50 THE CREATIVE REVIEW: A star-studded panel on why consumer magazines and business media matter so much to the creative economy, and why the creative economy matters so much to the UK

The 2012 conference will also be bigger and better than ever before, says the PPA. New features include an expanded exhibition section that will give visitors the opportunity to see the latest industry research, receive legal training, enjoy creative workshops and take advantage of great networking whilst also being informed and inspired by the multi-platform magazine publishing innovations on display.

“The way we consume media is constantly changing and more content is now available on more platforms, generating more revenues and reaching more people. Publishing+ will tackle a number of these fascinating issues that are shaping our industry, along with revealing industry research into the digital consumption of magazine content,” said Barry McIlheney, CEO of the PPA. “With the industry’s brightest stars speaking, we’re confident this year’s PPA Conference will help shine a light on where we’re headed and how, as an industry, we can make the most of the change we see happening.”
