Telegraph Shows Support for Newsagents

Following calls from the NFRN, the Daily Telegraph has demonstrated its support for newsagents with a price increase on its weekday editions accompanied by pro rata terms.

The NFRN says: From 3rd February the price of the weekday edition will rise 20p to £1.40. With terms maintained at 23.3 per cent, this means news retailers will receive an extra 4.66p per copy.

Welcoming the move NFRN National President Colin Fletcher said: “This is a fine example of a publisher recognising the challenging times that newsagents are facing and lending support. In return for such positive action I have no hesitation in urging NFRN members to throw their support behind this title. In conversations with the Telegraph circulation personnel we have made it clear that pro rata terms are vital if newsagents are to cover their ever increasing overheads and it is pleasing that they have listened.”

The Telegraph’s move is in contrast to that of News UK which earlier this month increased the price of the Monday to Friday editions of The Times but broke with pro rata terms and reduced the percentage margin that retailers receive.
