The special awards issue, on sale in December, saw Samsung claim two of the big hardware trophies, winning Manufacturer of the Year as well as Phone of the Year for the Galaxy S II. In the other key categories Asus won the Tablet of the Year award for the Eee Pad Transformer, while ALK’s CoPilot Live satnav app was named App of the Year.
“2011 was an incredible year for Android. It became the world’s biggest selling mobile OS, and saw an unrivalled level of innovation and creativity in phones, tablets and apps,” commented Andy Betts (pictured), Editor of Android Magazine. “We created the Android Magazine awards because we wanted to celebrate these fantastic achievements in consumer technology. An Android Magazine award can be seen as a benchmark for quality in a hugely competitive market, and after the tremendous success of these inaugural awards we have big plans to develop them further in 2012.”
