Launching this week in the print edition of the London Evening Standard, as well as Standard.co.uk and across social channels, the competition invites the audience to enter art work to be judged by a stellar line up of art experts. Judges including London Evening Standard Arts Editor William Moore, artist and curator Elliot McDonald and art critic Matthew Collings will select a shortlist of 10 artists, with an event announcing the winner taking place at the National Gallery in London on 26 October.
With a brief of ‘London’, the competition will encourage artists to turn to the city for inspiration to be in for a chance to win £10,000, a year’s free Hiscox Fine Art Insurance and a lifetime National Arts Pass.
It will be supported by in print advertorial and online native content and display throughout and a bespoke logo will run with all editorial coverage of the competition.
The activity comes off the back of a successful nine-month sponsorship of the London Evening Standard’s arts section by Hiscox. This ran across print, digital and events and was the newsbrand’s first event multi-platform arts sponsor.
Steve Cording, Head of Sponsorship, ESI Media said: “We know the London Evening Standard audience is passionate about art and we wanted to use this engagement to explore and cultivate up and coming creative talent in the city. By creating a competition of this size, alongside a live experience, ESI Media is able to bring a key vertical to life, delivering a valuable audience at scale to commercial partners such as Hiscox via our London powerhouse brand.”
Robert Read, Head of Art and Private Clients, Hiscox said: "We wanted to build on our previous work with ESI Media to create an initiative that would put us at the centre of the arts community. The Evening Standard Contemporary Arts Prize competition does just that, giving us direct access to a premium and passionate audience, all whilst giving up and coming artists a once in a lifetime platform to further their development.”
