Harper's Bazaar Appoints New Fashion Director

The National Magazine Company’s fashion magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, has announced the appointment of Gabriele Hackworthy as Fashion Director.

Renowned for her contemporary vision and cutting edge style, Gabriele (pictured) joins Bazaar with more than 15 years’ experience as a Fashion Director and Creative consultant in Sydney, New York and London.

Originally from Sydney, she became Fashion Director at Australian Vogue at the age of 26 before moving to New York where she worked as Fashion Director-At-Large for Japanese Vogue. She joined Chinese Vogue in 2004 when the title first launched, working in a dual role of Fashion Director-At-Large for both Asian titles.

Gabriele, whose work with Japanese and Chinese Vogue set a new benchmark for beauty and fashion photography in the Asian market, has an enviable list of contacts in the industry, says NatMags. She has directed a huge international roster of photographers and stylists and worked with some of the greatest fashion luminaries including photographers Craig McDean, Terry Richardson and Mario Sorrenti, and stylists Karl Templer, Marie Amelie Sauve and Panos Yiapanis.

Gabriele, who replaces former Creative/Fashion Director Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, will lead the Harper’s Bazaar fashion team, reporting on trends from around the world and directing the main fashion shoots, covers and celebrities for the world-class brand.

Harper’s Bazaar Editor, Lucy Yeomans, says: “I am thrilled that Gabriele has joined the Bazaar team. Her distinct style and vision is a perfect fit for Bazaar, whose reputation for visual excellence continues to strengthen. As Bazaar grows in influence, I am confident that Gabriele will bring yet more dynamism and inspiration to the team and deliver compelling and beautiful fashion pages."

Gabriele Hackworthy says: "It’s an honour to work on such an iconic brand as Harper’s Bazaar and a pleasure to work alongside Lucy Yeomans and her incredible team. I personally identify with the Harper’s Bazaar woman so my new role feels like a natural fit. I am very excited to be part of the magazine’s evolution by bringing the world’s best talent to its fashion pages.”

Harper’s Bazaar is edited by Lucy Yeomans and published by the National Magazine Company. The magazine recently recorded its highest ever ABC (February 2011) of 119,712 - up 8.2% year on year.
