Julie Etchingham to present Press Awards

ITV News at Ten’s Julie Etchingham will present the Press Awards, celebrating the best in national newspaper journalism, on 1 April.

Julie, who also presents ITV’s ‘Tonight’ programme, will present the awards at a glittering ceremony at the Marriott Grosvenor Square hotel on Thursday 1 April 2014.

There were nearly 700 entries for the 27 categories in the awards that celebrate the achievements of national newspapers last year.

The awards help to fund the Society of Editors’ campaigning for press freedom and the Journalists’ Charity.

The ITV presenter also fronted ITV's coverage of the Royal Wedding and Diamond Jubilee - and has been a key anchor for their UK and US election programmes.

She was the first woman to co-anchor a UK election night programme - and was the first woman to be given an RTS award for News Presentation.

Chairman of the judges Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors said: “We are delighted to have Julie presenting the awards for us this year and we look forward to her anchoring the evening’s proud celebration of quality journalism producing during 2013.”

Sponsors for the awards include Camelot which has supported the Society of Editors since 2001, Unison, Nikon, the Gorkana Group, Reuters, EY, HW Fisher, L’Oreal and the Press Association. The awards are supported by the NPA, in association with the Journalists’ Charity and the British Journalism Review.

Shortlists for the Press Awards will be published on Friday 28 February 2014.
