LexisNexis Announce Investors in People Award

LexisNexis, a leading global provider of information and workflow solutions, has announced that its Publishing Operations division has been credited with the Investors in People (IIP) award.

This year was the first time the division, which employs some 370 people producing the LexisNexis range of professional publications, entered into the IIP assessment process. Following a rigorous audit, the accreditation was granted, a remarkable achievement for the team for its first application, when measured against this robust benchmark.

Nicky Briggs, LexisNexis Publishing Operations Director, said: “The Investors in People Award is a tremendous endorsement of the hard work of all the team who constantly strive to improve how we work, communicate, develop and train. We regard training as an important investment that enables us to recruit and retain the very best people for our business.”

IIP Assessor Bruce MacRae was impressed by the practices the division had implemented and gave particular credit to the evolution of the Spotlight programme. He stated that Publishing Operations had been extremely effective at encouraging engagement through a variety of team meetings, one to ones and away days. He also commented that people throughout the Division feel valued and that their opinions are critical to the decision making process of their teams.

“Several people commented on the marked improvement in communication and management skills they have noticed in the past two years.”

He also noted that there was an excellent variety of learning and development opportunities for people at all levels of the company as well as strong team morale.

“I am particularly impressed by LexisNexis’ continued commitment to the Spotlight programme and the plans to use it to engage people and spread the word about Investors in People in other parts of the group.”

Investors in People (IIP) is a nationally recognised standard which measures the effectiveness of a company’s ability to deliver its strategic goals, its communications strategy, performance management, training, personal development, diversity and work culture.

The Spotlight programme was awarded a large employer National Training Award in 2008 and was shortlisted for a World of Learning Award in 2008.

Josh Bottomley, LexisNexis Managing Director, said: “This award demonstrates that LexisNexis has a serious commitment to excellent standards of communication, management performance and the professional development of its staff and this in turn has contributed to the success of the organisation. Receiving this award on our first attempt is proof of the effectiveness and high standards that we strive for everyday..”

The Publishing Operations division now joins the ranks of leading companies which have IIP accreditation, including BAE Systems, BT Group, Lloyds TSB, Marks & Spencer, Glaxo SmithKline, Shell, and British Airways.
