Local World appoints Digital Director

Following a successful search process, Local World has appointed Matt Kelly to the new role of Digital Director.

Matt will lead the delivery of digital product and strategy for Local World, working closely with the broader business to strengthen its multi-platform development.

Matt has more than 25 years’ experience in the UK media industry. He started his journalism career in regional newspapers, before holding a number of senior roles at the Daily Mirror. In 2007, Matt was appointed Digital Publisher and Director of Content of the national newspaper division of Trinity Mirror Group PLC, a position he held for six years. During this time he developed the Mirror Group websites and launched new premium brands, including MirrorFootball.co.uk and 3am.co.uk, as well as multiple apps and web-based mobile products, including Daily Mirror for iPad, and Mirror.co.uk and MirrorFootball across all mobile platforms.

He is currently Director of Sol361, the global news design and strategy agency, based in Barcelona. Most recently he played a lead role in digital transformation of Argentina’s market leading newspaper Clarín. Matt is also Chairman of the Global Editors Network annual summit.

Matt said: “At the very core of Local World’s strategy is a profoundly transformative vision for digital content and advertising. I’m terrifically excited about joining the team.”

He will join Local World on 16 June 2014 and will report to Group CEO, David Montgomery.
