Love It!’s Colonel Condom has been marching to airports across the country to make sure girls have plenty of contraceptives stuffed next to their beach towels. So far he’s visited Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester airports, with a trip to East Midlands next week.
“We're not encouraging girls to go abroad specifically to have sex,” says Love It! Editor Siobhan Wykes, “we just want them to be completely protected from sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies if they're going to enjoy steamy nights abroad.”
A recent poll of 2,000 women revealed only six out of ten pack condoms for trips abroad, while half of them weren't worried about the consequences of unsafe holiday sex.
Love It!’s first condom boot camp was at Birmingham International Airport, where Colonel Condom teamed up with Durex to dish out some last-minute contraception before take off. A quick reccie of the 15 women at check-in revealed only two of them had planned ahead for the ride.
“I'm flying out to Magaluf with my mate and didn't pack any condoms,” admits Simone Clarke, 18. “I haven't planned on having a holiday romance but I suppose you never know what might happen.”
