Richard Bettsworth appointed editor of Leicester Mercury

Richard Bettsworth, acting editor of the Leicester Mercury, has been appointed editor.

Richard (pictured) began his career in 1990 as a trainee reporter at The News, Portsmouth rising to deputy news editor. In 2000 he joined the Leicester Mercury and was appointed deputy editor in 2005.

Richard said: “It is an honour to edit a newspaper which is held in such high regard and a privilege to lead a team of journalists which contains so many talented individuals. The Leicester Mercury plays an important role in the Leicestershire community, at its heart are the core principle of producing high-quality local journalism which reflects the interests and concerns of our readers and which champions our community.”
