T3 launches 5th annual Gadget Awards

Future, the special-interest media group, has unveiled its fifth annual T3 Gadget Awards, proclaiming it to be the UK’s biggest and most influential consumer technology awards.

2010’s event was a phenomenal success, attracting over 750,000 votes, says Future. And, following 12 of the most exciting months in technology history, the 2011 T3 Gadget Awards looks set to break the one million votes mark and enjoy its biggest year yet.

Luke Peters, T3 Editor, says: “From its humble beginnings in a Soho basement five years ago to the hugely respected industry event it is today, the T3 Gadget Awards has become the world’s leading tech awards. 2011 is already a vintage year for top-quality tech, social-media evolution and manufacturer battles - and we’re not even halfway through. It’s going to be an exciting few months.”

The 2011 T3 Gadget Awards longlist is now open, with 205 nominations across 19 categories. These range from Gadget of the Year, Innovation of the Year and Brand of the Year to new categories like Tablet of the Year.

In the hotly-contested Tech Personality of the Year category, the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Lady Gaga, Jamie Oliver and Richard Branson compete to follow in the footsteps of previous winners including Stephen Fry and Suzi Perry.

The T3 Gadget Awards longlist is a “definitive who’s who” of the biggest players in technology – with Apple leading the way with 20 nominations.

Technology fans have until 20 July to select their favourites and suggest ‘wildcard’ additions to the list.

118 nominations will make the shortlist, and be up for public vote until 22 September. The votes will then be combined with the scores of a panel of respected industry judges to determine the final results.

The winners will be revealed at the star-studded awards ceremony, taking place at Old Billingsgate, London on Monday 10 October 2011.

Nial Ferguson, T3 Group Publishing Director says: “The T3 Gadget Awards is a seven-month campaign that engages with millions of tech consumers in the UK with the aim of recognising and celebrating the greatest gadgets and consumer technology of 2011. It is simply the biggest and most influential gadgets awards in the world.”

Table sales are open now. Tables of 10 are available at the special early bird price of £1,875 until 17th June.
