This new deal, which currently applies to the Nordic markets, reflects Egmont’s confidence in the role of the digital newsstand in its audience development.
Egmont is a major, international media group specialising in the children’s market. Digital is a significant and growing part of Egmont’s multi-platform activity which ranges from print to film to ecommerce. For some time, Egmont has been evaluating Readly by having a dozen magazines on the platform. Now, the publisher has decided to increase the number of titles to 50.
Marika Bark, Business Area Director, Egmont Publishing, said: “Readly has a well developed digital platform for reading magazines and we see great potential to find even more readers to our titles through them.”
With a growing user base in more than 50 countries, Readly is one of the world’s leading digital platform for reading magazines online. Readly’s app gives the reader unlimited access to thousands of magazines via mobile and tablet. According to Readly, user statistics show that a third of Readly’s users read magazines every day and that the number of issues read increases significantly with usage: for the most part, this is new, expanded magazine consumption.
Ranj Begley, Readly’s Global Content Director, said: “We are building a strong children’s category, both comics and magazines, in our overall consumer offer, which is very much a subscription that the whole family can use – five devices can be registered under each subscription, each with its own usage profile. Expanding our relationship with Egmont is a key part of growing our broader business. It is especially gratifying as they have been analysing the performance of their test titles in great detail before making this major commitment.”
