Haymarket run Asian licensee training day

Thursday 22 March saw Haymarket undertake its second Asian licensee editorial training day, which was held at the Goodwood Park Hotel in Singapore.

The one-day course was taught by Mel Nichols (pictured), former editorial director at Haymarket Consumer Media and covered magazine craft, effective covers, writing for the web and key thoughts about social media.

The 26 delegates that took part, work at Asian editions of Autocar, Stuff, FourFourTwo, F1Racing and Champions as well as the soon to launch NurseryWorld China and PrintWeek Asean. Most delegates came from Singapore but others flew in from Tokyo, Chengdu, Taipei, Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta and Manila. For the first time the course was also open to non-licensing partners, with delegates from Singapore’s biggest magazine publisher MediaCorp taking part.

Edward Marr, Head of Licensing Development in Asia commented: “It was really great to have so many of our partners attend. All of them really relished being taught by someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Mel and found the course extremely useful and are already asking for more. In the breaks it was great to see editors of the same magazines from different markets chatting, discussing their latest industry news and comparing their own editions.”

The licensing department are planning to organise a more expansive set of training courses, to take place at the end of May around the FIPP WMM event which will be held in London.
