Haymarket’s Martin Durham to step down

Following his announcement last week that he has decided to retire as executive chairman of the Haymarket Media Group as from January 2010, Lord Heseltine said today that it is with much regret that Martin Durham is leaving the company at the same time.

Martin Durham’s contract as chairman and managing director of Haymarket Business Media is due to expire shortly, says the company, and it has been agreed to bring this forward to coincide with other management changes so that the inevitable review that follows from such changes can be conducted now in the same timescale.

“The past 10 years since Michael returned to Haymarket as Group chairman has been a particularly exciting time for Business Media and Haymarket. HBM has grown fast and developed into a varied and complex operation. I am proud to have led the business through this growth despite the turmoil of both structural and economic changes in recent times. As our sector starts to emerge from the recession I look forward to driving forward new businesses,” commented Martin Durham (pictured).

Michael Heseltine said: “I announce this news with very great regret. Martin has made a long and remarkable contribution to our business-to-business media activities. Under his leadership we have established leading brands in many fields. He has guided us along the uncharted paths from print to the web so that our print titles are now partnered by successful online activities. In addition he has developed live events and information businesses and also presided over the establishment of two of our most successful overseas subsidiaries in Germany and Hong Kong. He leaves us with every good wish for his future career and deep gratitude.”
