ImagineFX tells the real story of Star Wars

Future, the special-interest media group, has announced a collaboration with Lucasfilm on a special Star Wars edition of ImagineFX, the digital arts magazine.

Celebrating the release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray, ImagineFX’s Star Wars special lifts the lid on the making of the Star Wars movies by bringing together artists from all six films.

Lucasfilm’s Aaron McBride exclusively designs a new addition for the Star Wars universe, a combat droid in the evil Empire's army.

While diminutive Jedi Master Yoda appears as you’ve never seen him before in a series of Iain McCaig concept sketches for 1999’s The Phantom Menace – sporting an impressive head of hair and, in another, hirsute moustache and beard combo.

Claire Howlett, Editor of ImagineFX, says: “There’s no other magazine that can get this many great Star Wars artists in one place to share their skills, knowledge and insights.

“ImagineFX aims to give readers inspiration and knowledge, and there’s no better inspiration than the defining film of our childhoods and no better knowledge than from the creative minds that made Star Wars happen!”

ImagineFX’s Star Wars special offers the unique chance to delve into the Lucasfilm archives, with Academy Award-winning artist Ralph McQuarrie recounting the making of Star Wars: A New Hope and award-winning painter Greg Hildebrandt reveals how he created the iconic 1977 film poster.

The issue also shows readers how to paint Star Wars characters old and new, with exclusive step-by-step workshops from the artists who created them. Iain McCaig remakes Darth Maul from scratch, and creature designer Terryl Whitchlatch explains the birth of the prequels’ most controversial character Jar Jar Binks.

ImagineFX’s Star Wars special hits newsstands on 23rd August priced at £5.99. It’s also available digitally at www.zinio.com/imaginefx-single.
