IOP Publishing MD awarded MBE

Jerry Cowhig, Managing Director of IOP Publishing, Bristol, has been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. He has been made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) “for services to science”.

Having worked as Managing Director at IOP Publishing since 1995, Cowhig, 64 (pictured), is due to retire this year. Over the last 15 years, IOP Publishing has seen a large expansion in its scientific publications. The company now publishes more than 60 journals.

Jerry Cowhig has represented IOP on many international bodies including the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers.

Mr Cowhig said, "I feel highly honoured by the award, and at the same time embarrassed to take credit for the success of IOP Publishing because it is down to a team effort”.

Under Jerry Cowhig, IOP Publishing has become associated with cultural life in Bristol and the South West through sponsorship and staff involvement. IOP Publishing was recently placed 2nd by Bristol Media in the “Top 100 South West Creative Companies”.
