Maney Publishing relaunches Watsonia

Maney Publishing has announced a new publishing arrangement with the Botanical Society of the British Isles to relaunch its journal Watsonia as the New Journal of Botany in 2011.

New Journal of Botany is the scientific journal of the BSBI, published twice a year. The Journal has a western- or north-western-European focus and is a forum for communicating the results of studies relating to the vascular plants and charophytes of this region. Topics of particular interest are:

• phytogeography, floristics, distribution and recording;

• taxonomy, systematics and evolution;

• population & conservation biology, incl. ecological genetics, autecological, physiological and phenological studies;

• plant/animal interactions, including plant biochemistry;

• history of botany in the British Isles, including its development in a European context;

• as well as topics of a more general or historical nature.

The journal will be made available online from 2011 via IngentaConnect, where subscribers can access the full text as well as table of contents alerts and linked article references via CrossRef.

Mark Simon, Publishing Director of Maney Publishing, states that, “the company is greatly looking forward to relaunching Watsonia in a new format, online, and with colour, as the New Journal of Botany, and as a journal that combines all the best features of a member’s journal with scientific and international aspirations.”

Chris Boon, Chairman of the Publications Committee of the BSBI, believes that “the publishing arrangement with Maney will greatly help promote the BSBI’s academic work, while providing members with a professionally produced and attractive print and online product.”
