According to Prospect Publishing, Mark brings a decade’s worth of experience from the Economist, where his career has spanned digital media, marketing, licensing, syndication and circulation. He has also been publisher of the World Ahead, the Economist’s future-gazing franchise, and 1843 magazine, which features longform narrative journalism as well as shorter reads and columns from the Economist.
Before joining the Economist, Mark was General Manager (International) at Bauer Media and International Business Manager at Emap. He also had roles at Telegraph Media Group and Haymarket Publishing.
Alan Rusbridger, editor of Prospect, said: “We’re thrilled that Mark is joining us. He has had a wealth of experience in all aspects of publishing and we were impressed by his exciting ambition for building on the success of Prospect—in text and beyond.”
Mark Beard said: “I’m delighted to be joining Prospect at an exciting time for the brand. I believe Prospect has great potential to play an increasingly important role in British society, and beyond. It’s a vision shared by Sir Clive Cowdery, Prospect’s ambitious owner, and Alan Rusbridger, its recently appointed editor, whose journalistic excellence I have admired for many years. I look forward to working with the teams to continue Prospect’s transformation into an increasingly multi-platform modern media company.”
