The Sun says Ellie Henman has been promoted to Bizarre editor, responsible for the Bizarre column and Showbiz coverage at The Sun.
Ellie says: “It is the greatest honour of my career to be handed the reins of Bizarre, following in the footsteps of some of Fleet Street’s finest journalists. Along with the sensational Howell Davies and Jack Hardwick, we look forward as a team to continuing Bizarre's brilliant work - and we can’t wait to get started in the New Year. Nine-year-old me would be doing somersaults. Sadly, the 34-year-old me is too out of shape.”
Ellie first joined The Sun in 2016 where she worked as a reporter for the digital showbiz desk. Three years later she moved onto Bizarre, before being made showbiz news editor in 2021. Prior to starting her career at The Sun, Ellie worked at magazines including Now!, heat and Closer and got her break in the industry thanks to an ITV2 reality TV show.
The Sun says Howell Davies has also been promoted to associate bizarre editor.
Howell said: "I am thrilled to be taking this new role alongside Ellie who is one of the hardest working people on Fleet Street. We make a great team and I am excited about the future of Bizarre and showbiz at The Sun."
Howell Davies has worked at The Sun since September 2015. He joined for the relaunch of thesun.co.uk and moved onto the Bizarre team in April 2016, climbing the ranks from showbiz reporter to deputy bizarre editor. Graduating from University of Southampton with a degree in Geography, Howell started his career as a reporter at the entertainment news agency BANG Showbiz before joining The Sun the following year.
With both appointments having extensive digital experience, they will strengthen The Sun’s commitment to non-stop showbiz coverage across print and online.
Victoria Newton, editor in chief of The Sun, says: “Ellie is perfectly placed to take over after an amazing year breaking huge showbiz stories including the fallout between Holly and Phil, followed by further revelations that eventually led to Phillip’s departure and external investigation into the allegations.
“As a former Bizarre editor I know first hand how much fun it is to edit the column - one of the best gigs on the planet - and Ellie will do a tremendous job.
“Ellie and Howell are both exceptional talents and ideally placed to ensure The Sun’s exclusive showbiz content gets even better.”
The Sun says both report into Clemmie Moodie and are supported by Jack Hardwick on Bizarre. Amy Brookbanks and Issy Sampson lead digital showbiz coverage and Hannah Hope and Emily Webber head up The Sun on Sunday's showbiz output.
